The George Heckman Memorial Sportsmanship Scholarship was established in 1995 to honor the memory of George Heckman who coached football at Graham High School from 1946 until 1965. He compiled a 129 and 62 record that any of his competitors would be happy to claim. In 1978 he retired from Graham High School as athletic director and ICT teacher. During his 32 years at GHS, Coach Heckman touched the lives of thousands of students as a coach, as a teacher, and as an example.

The George Heckman Memorial Sportsmanship Scholarship provides financial assistance to college-bound graduates of Graham High School who have participated in a varsity sport in the school’s sports programs at least during their senior year, with preference given to football players.  Seniors in good standing at Graham High School who have been accepted to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or university are eligible.  One or more scholarships of $1,000 or more may be awarded each year.

Consideration will be given to the applicant’s athletic ability, academic performance, and leadership qualities on and off the playing field.
